Since 2006 the Jewish Association Czulent manages an Educational Project 'Meetings in Polin'. One of the aims of the Association is working in favor of knowledge and dialogue between Jews and Poles, and education with the scope of research on the Jewish culture and tradition – as part of the accomplishment of that goal, a project of school education has been completed.
It is important to understand the significance of getting to know the culture and tradition of the nation whose fate inextricably intertwined with the fate of Poles for so many generations. The significance of this education is indisputable and, also, its process might be fascinating for the youth. One of the goals of the project is, exactly, presenting in an accessible and attractive way the chief elements which construct the Jewish identity. We have created the project, inter alia, with a view to including the program into a wider range of special subjects (e.g. intercultural education, history, religion) which are being completed by the classes. However, we do not want to duplicate or complete the teaching program. Our project is directed at education through participation and experience. We have prepared a workshop course and its duration and the extent of topics may be adjusted to the expectations of the each tutor. Our key action is to transfer the knowledge in an intelligible and interesting way including the most possible involvement of the students. These are some of the workshop topics for the youth of the secondary school:
1. Jewish Religious Holidays 2. The Symbols of Judaism 3. Kosher –What Does It Mean? 4. The Alphabet – Yiddish and Hebrew 5. The Customs and the Secular Tradition – the Jewish Home, the Jewish Family 6. Jewish Identity – What Is It, How Are Its Stereotypes Created? 7. The Jewish History of Your Region
We want to take advantage of the activating elements such as discussion, work in teams, preparing projects by the students during the lesson, trips etc. Each classes may last for 45 minutes or more, however, we would like to make the program as much flexible as it can be, so the schools, which are interested in our program, will be able to chose one of the topics, a few of them, or, combining a few of them during one meeting. We want to cooperate closely with the teachers while setting the details of the workshops. The classes will be led by two people which, also, may bring and exploit some devices and teaching aids. The people which will lead the workshops are mostly students and university graduates. The workshops have been prepared in cooperation with the people educated in pedagogy.
The program is supported by: The Jewish Community of Cracow, Polish Jews Forum. We also cooperate with the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam as part of the European educational project on the topic of Jews in Europe. If you are interested in our program, or you would like to know some more details of the possibilities to cooperate as part of our project, we would kindly request for contacting us.
